Rats! Gah! I would have been running screaming. I can handle bugs, mice, livestock of any other description, but rats give me the willies. I could never be so blase about a rat eating my peach–please tell me you did not finish it off.

The cabin looks magical.

Dear Spike, I came across your blog quite by chance, and thanks for writing it. I don’t have much to say — this memory comes to mind: Remember around the Spring of 1994, when my partner left, and I was wandering about in a grievous daze? Well you helped me out a lot, just by being you, and by having a dog and a cat and a funky old apartment and those amazing peanut butter cookies from Uprising.
I may have told you that before, but wanted to say it again. As the old expression goes, “a friend in need is a friend indeed”! Best wishes.

Cats are wonderfully independent creatures. Maybe they’ll appreciate you even more when you return.
